Small town

San Vicente is a small town with about 5,000 people. We are learning to adjust to life without some of the things we are used to. Here are a few examples:

  • There is only one traffic light and it is on the only paved road, which is the main highway of Baja California.
  • There is no bank, no credit cards or checks accepted. Everything is cash only. We have to withdraw money from the bank in Ensenada and hope that we don't need more than we expect.
  • We signed up to get a phone/internet line, but there are 8 people ahead of us. Each person has to wait until another line gets cancelled before they will put in a new line.
  • No appt. necessary to see the dr. If you need an appt., you go early in the morning, wait hours in line, only to find out that there is no medicine available. If you have the money to purchase it, then the next question is - Does the pharmacy have it?
  • You have to pay someone to take the trash to the dump or you have to take it yourself.
  • The middle school and high school are in the same bldg, one meets in the morning, the other in the afternoon.
  • And the worst of all - there is no ice cream! :(
